Restoration (Page 1)

Starting the disassembly stage.

Top left you can see me grinning ear to ear after having pulled my first motor with a lift borrowed from someone named Neil who is a wealth of information on restoring old cars.  The young grinner on the right is Brandon from across the street.  He's happy because this motor is going into his project, an early 70's Oldsmobile.  These pictures are from June of 2008.

The picture below is of the 283 I plan to put into the Impala.  Jury is still out on that one however.  It is a 62 block supposedly so it would be nice if it works out.  Still waiting to hear how much it's going to cost to have it rebuilt.  I had already bought headers, an intake manifold and 650cfm Edelbrock carb for it.  Have to wait and see.

May 5, 2009 UPDATE!! While taking the 283 apart for painting, it became apparent that the motor was more tired than we thought originally.

So Rob Volk rebuilt this 350 for me and I can still use my carburator, intake manifold and headers that I had purchased for the 283.  I wound up with more horsepower for less money than it would have cost to rebuild the 283.  Good Deal!
