This was my 4th or 5th attempt at fixing this area. I was just beginning to weld and couldn't quite get a piece welded completely in without burning a big hole before I was done. So each attempt resulted in a bigger hole that had to be patched. If I did manage to weld it in I then wrecked it by grinding the metal too thin, again resluting in a hole.
